Build and publish a guide with Claude
Connect Claude to PlayStep, have it draft an onboarding guide from your website, try it, and approve the publish.
10 minBeginner
You will ask Claude for an onboarding guide built from a public page of your app, try the draft in your app, and publish it once you approve the request in PlayStep. The same steps work in ChatGPT and other assistants: see AI assistants.
Before you start
- A PlayStep workspace with an app that has the SDK installed. The quickstart takes about 10 minutes.
- A public page of your app, such as its home or pricing page. Pages behind a sign-in need a capture link from the dashboard instead: see Generate with AI.
- Claude on the web or the desktop app.
- To approve the publish yourself, the owner or admin role. Otherwise an owner or admin approves it for you.
Connect Claude
In Claude, open Customize › Connectors, choose Add custom connector, name it PlayStep and paste the URL:
https://api.playstep.app/mcp
Choose Connect. Claude opens PlayStep for you to sign in.
Choose Build drafts
On the consent screen, pick your workspace and keep Build drafts, so Claude can create and edit drafts without asking you each time. Publishing still waits for approval. Choose Allow Claude.
Ask for an onboarding guide
In a new chat with PlayStep turned on, ask:
Build an onboarding guide from https://example.com that helps new users create
their first project. Use Generate with AI and keep it to 4 steps.
Claude reads your workspace, crawls the page and the pages it links to, asks AI to suggest tours and turns the best one into a draft. Claude asks before it uses each tool until you allow it. This uses 1 of your monthly AI generations.
Review the draft
Claude lists the steps, each with the element it points at and a note on what clip to record. Ask for changes in plain words, such as "Make step 2 shorter" or "Complete step 3 when they tap Save". Then ask:
Give me a preview link.
Open the link in a browser where your app runs and play the guide. Nobody else sees it, and it expires after an hour. To add clips, open the draft in the dashboard and choose Record or upload on each step, or give Claude links to clips you host.
Ask to publish
Publish it to production.
Claude cannot publish on its own. It creates a request and gives you a review link. Nothing has changed for your users yet.
Approve in PlayStep
Open the link, or go to Settings › Approvals. The request says what will go live, such as "Publish “Get started” to production in Acme", with the steps listed. Choose Show exactly what runs to see the call itself, then Approve. The guide is live within a minute.
See how it does
After a few days, ask:
How is the guide doing? Where do people drop off?
Claude reads the guide's funnel and points at the step that loses people. Ask it to draft a fix, preview it, and ask to publish again.
Keep it short. 3 to 5 steps is the sweet spot for a first guide. Ask Claude to cut steps that teach more than the first win.
