Connect ChatGPT

Add PlayStep to ChatGPT as a custom connector in Developer mode, sign in, and choose what it may do.

Custom connectors need Developer mode. Whether you have Developer mode depends on your ChatGPT plan. In a ChatGPT workspace, an admin may need to turn it on for you first.

Turn on Developer mode

In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.

Create the connector

In Apps & Connectors, choose Create. Name it PlayStep, paste the URL and pick OAuth for authentication:

Leave the OAuth client ID and secret empty: ChatGPT identifies itself to PlayStep.

ChatGPT opens PlayStep. Sign in if you are not signed in already, make your choices on the consent screen (workspace, level and apps) and choose Allow ChatGPT. ChatGPT shows as Verified, because it signs in from its own website.

Ask your first question

In a new chat, turn on PlayStep from the composer's tools menu, then ask:

Confirmations

ChatGPT asks you to confirm before it uses a tool that changes something. PlayStep marks its read tools as read-only, so reading guides, analytics and settings does not need a confirmation.

Confirming in ChatGPT is not the same as approving in PlayStep. When ChatGPT calls guide_publish, PlayStep turns it into a request, and nothing reaches your end users until an owner or admin approves it under Settings › Approvals. See Permissions and approvals.

Switch workspace or disconnect

A connection belongs to one workspace. To work in another, connect PlayStep again in ChatGPT and pick the other workspace on the consent screen.

Removing the connector in ChatGPT stops ChatGPT from using it. To revoke its access in PlayStep as well, choose Disconnect next to it in Settings › AI assistants: it stops working at once and its requests waiting for approval are cancelled.
