Recording and uploading clips
Upload short screen recordings; the dashboard trims, compresses and stores them, with a poster frame.
Open Guides › Clips › Upload clip, or Add a clip on a step.
- Choose a video: MP4, WebM or MOV.
- Trim it to the step. Clips can be up to 60 seconds; 3 to 10 is best.
- Name it, and upload.
On Free, the clip is compressed in your browser first: no audio, H.264 MP4, at most 1280 px wide. Most 5-second clips end up between 150 KB and 600 KB. Browsers without WebCodecs use a WebAssembly encoder that loads only when needed. On Pro, clips are processed on our servers.
A poster frame is saved from the start of the trimmed clip. It shows while the clip loads, for users who prefer reduced motion, and if a clip cannot play.

Where a clip is used
Each clip shows the guides and steps that use it. A clip used by a published guide cannot be deleted; replace it in the step and publish first.
