Environments
Every app has a development and a production environment, each with its own keys, published guides and kill switch.
| Development | Production | |
|---|---|---|
| Use it for | Local builds, staging, testing new guides | Your real users |
| Keys | ps_pub_dev_…, ps_sec_dev_… | ps_pub_prod_…, ps_sec_prod_… |
| Counts toward usage | No | Yes |
You publish a guide to one environment at a time, so a guide can be at version 3 in development and version 2 in production.
Keys
- Publishable keys (
ps_pub_…) go in your app. They can only read published guides and send guide events. - Secret keys (
ps_sec_…) are for your servers and CI, to publish guides with the server API. They are shown once; rotate them in Settings › API keys.
Kill switch
Guides › Environments › Turn off guides stops every guide in that environment within a minute, without a release. Your app keeps working; guides simply stop starting.
Switching in the dashboard
The context switcher at the top of the sub-navigation picks the app and the environment. Lists, analytics and anchors show the selected environment.
