AI assistants

Connect Claude

Add PlayStep as a custom connector in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile, or as an MCP server in Claude Code.

Claude on the web, desktop and mobile

Add the connector

In Claude on the web or in the desktop app, open Customize › Connectors and choose Add custom connector. Name it PlayStep and paste the URL:

https://api.playstep.app/mcp

You do not need an OAuth client ID or secret: Claude identifies itself to PlayStep.

Connect and sign in

Choose Connect. Claude opens PlayStep: sign in if you are not signed in already, make your choices on the consent screen and choose Allow Claude. You land back in Claude.

Ask your first question

Check that PlayStep is turned on in the chat's tools menu, then ask:

What can you do in PlayStep?

Claude reads your workspace and tells you what this connection may do. Nothing changes.

A connector you add on the web or desktop also works in the Claude mobile apps.

Team and Enterprise plans

An owner of your Claude organization adds the PlayStep connector for the organization first. Then each person connects it from Customize › Connectors and signs in to PlayStep as themselves, so every assistant works with its own person's role and choices.

Claude Code

Add PlayStep from your terminal:

Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http playstep https://api.playstep.app/mcp

Then run /mcp in Claude Code, choose playstep and sign in: Claude Code opens PlayStep in your browser. The command adds PlayStep to the current project; add --scope user to use it in every project.

Claude Code registers itself with PlayStep rather than signing in from Claude's website, so the consent screen shows it as Not verified, and your workspace's rules count it as one of the other MCP clients. If your workspace allows only Claude and ChatGPT, ask an owner or admin to allow other MCP clients too.

Every new connection goes through this screen, in PlayStep.

ChoiceWhat it means
WorkspaceShown when you are in more than one. The connection belongs to that workspace only.
What it may doRead only, Suggest changes or Build drafts (the default). Levels above your workspace's maximum show "Not allowed in this workspace."
Apps it can seeShown when the workspace has more than one app: All apps, including new ones, or Only these.

The screen also says who is asking. Claude and ChatGPT sign in from their own websites and show as Verified. Other clients show Not verified and the name they registered with: connect one only if you started from an app you trust. Below that is the site you go back to afterwards.

If your workspace's rules do not allow this assistant, or do not let you connect one, the screen says why instead. Choose Allow Claude to connect, or Deny to go back without connecting.

You can change the level later in Settings › AI assistants. To change the apps, disconnect PlayStep in Claude, connect it again and pick them on the consent screen. Permissions and approvals explains what each level runs at once and what waits for approval.

Per-tool permissions in Claude

Claude has per-tool permissions in the connector settings: you can let some tools run without asking and keep Claude asking before others, or turn tools off. PlayStep marks the tools that reach end users, change settings or delete things, so Claude knows which ones need care.

In Claude Code, allow PlayStep's tools by name with /permissions, for example mcp__playstep__guide_list, or all of them with mcp__playstep.

These permissions come on top of PlayStep's own. Letting Claude use guide_publish without asking still only creates a request that a person approves.

Switch workspace or disconnect

A connection belongs to one workspace. To work in another, disconnect PlayStep in Claude, connect again and pick the other workspace on the consent screen.

To cut Claude off from PlayStep's side, choose Disconnect next to it in Settings › AI assistants. It stops working at once and its requests waiting for approval are cancelled.

If something goes wrong

Claude showsWhat to do
"AI assistants are turned off in this workspace."An owner or admin turns them on in Settings › AI assistants.
"This workspace does not allow Claude." or "Only owners and admins can connect AI assistants to this workspace."The workspace's rules block you. An owner or admin can change them.
"This workspace allows only Claude and ChatGPT, not other MCP clients."You are using Claude Code, which counts as another MCP client. An owner or admin can allow other MCP clients.
"This connection was removed. Connect PlayStep again."Someone disconnected it. Connect again.
"This sign-in link is broken or has expired."Start connecting again from Claude.
"Too many calls. Wait a minute and try again."Each connection can make 120 calls a minute.
